Montenegro

Doesn’t it just sound exotic and sexy?  Montenegro. I imagine old movies, suave gentlemen and romance.  Located on the Adriatic Sea, Montenegro is nestled between Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania.  The capital city of Montenegro is Podgorica.

The town of Kotor is on the Bay of Kotor and is one of the most beautiful places in the Balkans.  A medieval fortified town, Kotor is charming, full of cats and it doesn’t matter where you are, the view is majestic.

I arrived on the Wind Surf and sailed down the Bay of Kotor as the sun came up.

St. Tryphon Cathedral (Kotor Cathedral) was consecrated in 1166 and damaged and restored over the centuries.  It was built in honour of Saint Tryphon and is a symbol of Kotor today.

St. Luke’s Church was built in 1195.

The Church of St. Nicholas is an Orthodox church built between 1902 and 1909.

Church of Our Lady of Remedy was built in 1518 and is on St John Mountain.

A climb to St John Fortress is a must-do.

Around Kotor …
