Make sure your headphones are charged, as you have a big travel day ahead. You’ll arrive in Bukhara in Uzbekistan in the late afternoon, and the long drive will be forgotten as you’re swept up in the mosaics and ancient monuments of the city. Founded no later than the 1st century BC, across its many years, the city has been ruled by countless empires and dynasties, now reflected in the colourful culture. When you arrive, wander through the Lyabi-Hauz Plaza and the trading dome and see the ancient sites lit up as night falls.

Travel to Bukhara

It was a long day travelling to Bukhara from Khiva.  We had a big bus for the 9 of us (8 travellers + guide) so a lot of room to relax, read and sleep.

Bukhara

Bukhara is an ancient city  and a major medieval center for Islamic theology and culture.  It is more than two thousand years old and one of the best examples of well preserved Islamic cities of Central Asia of the 10th to 17th centuries.

Lyabi-Hauz Plaza

The Lyabi-Hauz Plaza was built around a pool in 1620 and is shaded by mulberry trees.

Taki Zargaron Trading Dome

Taki Zargaron Trading Dome is a bazaar and the first among the trading domes of Bukhara.  There’s some ongoing construction work, but we checked out the workshops for carpets, knives and pottery.  There are a lot of vendors in these domes.

Salom Inn

This was a fabulous spot and had comfy beds!  I slept well and ate well.

Happy Travels!
