The Five Stans Adventure exploring Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 Tajikistan 🇹🇯 Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 and Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬
Strap in for a full day of sightseeing in Almaty today. Kazakhstan is one of the world’s top five oil-producing nations and you’ll notice the development and wealth that comes from it as you wander the streets. You’ll visit Central Square and the colourful Zenkoff Cathedral in Panfilov Park – dedicated to the 28 guardsmen who died defending Moscow against Nazi tanks in WWII. Then, check out the fascinating Museum of Kazakh Musical Instruments. The rest of the day is free to explore at your leisure – just ask your local leader for recommendations.
~ Intrepid Travel ~ Five Stans Day 17
Itinerary Change ~ the rest of the group did a city tour yesterday and saw the Central Square, Central State Museum, Zenkoff Cathedral and Museum of Kazakh Musical Instruments while I met Gulzhanar and her Mom for supper.
Today we toured the “Esik” State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, hiked to Lake Esik and had the best time celebrating Tom’s 79th birthday at Slava Almaty.
Esik State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve
State Historical-Cultural Museum-Reserve Issyk
The Esik (Issyk) State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve in Kazakhstan houses artifacts related to the nomadic Saka civilization, including items from the famous “Golden Man” burial.
Lake Esik Hike
Lake Esik in Kazakhstan is also known as Lake Issyk and Issyk Lake is fed by the Issyk River. This was a fun hike especially when we could start to see the blue glimpses of the lake through the trees! I was on the lookout for snow leopards.

Slava Almaty ~ Celebrating Tom’s 79th
