The Five Stans Adventure exploring Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 Tajikistan 🇹🇯 Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 and Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬
You have a free morning before you say goodbye to Samarkand and jump back on the train around midday to Tashkent. When you arrive, you have a free evening to explore this capital city at leisure. Alternatively, you might like to soak up the down time and get your rest for tomorrow.

The itinerary changed a bit yesterday so we toured the necropolis this morning.
Shak-i-Zinda
Shak-i-Zinda is a necropolis of mausoleums and other ritual buildings from the 11th – 15th and 19th centuries. It is known as the “Tomb of the Living King” and an important place of pilgrimage. This avenue of mausoleums contains some of the richest tilework in the Muslim world. I bought a Christmas bulb.
Train Ride to Tashkent
We said goodbye to Samarkand and boarded the train to Tashkent. It was time to relax and read my Kindle!
Tashkent
Tashkent is the capital city of Uzbekistan with a population of 3 million and the largest city in Central Asia. There are many museums here and a mix of modern and Soviet-era architecture. Tashkent is known for its skyscrapers, shopping and cafes. They have just completed construction of an Olympic Village that meets international Olympic Committee requirements.
