What a hike!!

Our hike started in Ahu Tahira, a construction platform with perfectly overlapping stone structures.
The hike to the rim of the Rano Kau crater (the largest in the Island) was long, but with amazing views!
We continued on to Orongo, an ancient ceremonial village where the Birdman competition took place.
The Birdman competition decided who would lead the Rapa Nui each year. Each elder would choose a champion to dive down the cliffs of Orongo, swim to the small inlet named Moto Nui and wait for the first manutara (sooty tern) egg of the season. They would then swim all the way back to Orongo with the egg safely secured on their head. The winner was crowned King for one year.
