My dusty and neglected backpack was taken OFF the shelf.  A little weekend jaunt to New York took place with my Mama and we were thrilled to be travelling again.

A red eye flight from Alberta had us landing in New York in the morning.  COVID travel rules required us to have a negative Antigen test to enter the US and we took care of that a couple days before.

I love New York!  There’s just something about being in the city and this trip I checked off a few activities that I always wanted to do —- we stayed in The Plaza, the Rockefeller Christmas Tree was up and decorated and I had my first helicopter ride.

My Mama enjoyed walking around taking pictures.  The Salvation Army Captain wanted a picture with his phone too so he could take it home and show his wife.

The Plaza

I loved it here.  First rate service and folks remembered my name.  The french fries were divine and we had them more than once.  We required a negative PCR test to return to Canada and the concierge made arrangements for the nurse to come to our room to administer the tests.  Easy peasy.

Helicopter Ride

A helicopter ride above New York was the highlight of the trip for us and my first helicopter ride.  I highly recommend doing this when in New York!

Katz’s Deli

A corned beef sandwich from Katz’s Deli is a must do for me when I’m in New York.  As always, it was delicious and we couldn’t eat it all.  One sandwich between the two of us would have been more than enough.

Mom had never seen When Harry Met Sally ~ so when we got home we watched it.  Still entertaining after all these years!

Shopping

My favourite activity!  I hadn’t been to New York since November 2018 and the Christian Louboutin shoe section had moved to a different spot on Floor 8 of Saks Fifth Avenue.  I found winter boots that I can wear outside in Canada!  These are fabulous!  I’ve since googled and there’s a different winter style available that I may have to order.

Rockefeller Christmas Tree & Saks Light Show

My last time through New York, I saw the tree but it wasn’t decorated yet.  The tree was amazing to see all lit up.  An unexpected treat was the light show at Saks that we saw on our way to the tree.

Rockettes

The Rockettes had a Christmas performance that we attended.  Another first for me – seeing the Rockettes and going to Radio City Music Hall.  I’m always fascinated how in sync all of their movements are.  I can’t walk in a straight line.

Come From Away

Another show and one that I highly recommend.  Come From Away tells the story of the planes that landed in Gander, Newfoundland during 9/11.  Gander is my birthplace and the depictions are spot on in the play.  A very enjoyable evening.

Afternoon Tea

I love my scones and have to partake if I see an afternoon tea.  We enjoyed this and we were both given a piece of Christmas cake to take home in a “The Plaza” tin.

Christmas Bulbs

I’ve collected bulbs for years while travelling and picked up a few more this year along with a tree topper from The Plaza.
