Where Time Begins!

I wanted to see the Prime Meridian.

There’s an Uber Boat that is the perfect way to travel longer distances in London.  I always walk throughout central London and take the Tube as necessary.  However, there was a Tube strike and I needed an alternate solution.  Uber Boat was great and I headed up the Thames and debarked at Greenwich Pier.

Greenwich is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and “The Royal Borough of Greenwich” is within London and home of the Prime Meridian, the National Maritime Museum, the Queen’s House, the Royal Observatory and the Old Royal Naval College.  This site is worth visiting!

The first thing I saw was The Cutty Sark which is the last of the British Clippers built in 1869.

National Maritime Museum & Queen’s House

The National Maritime Museum was created in 1934 and admission is free.  Interesting place and I loved the enormous world map on the floor.  Built between 1616 and 1635, the Queen’s House is a former royal residence that was part of the demolished Greenwich Palace.

Old Royal Naval College

The Old Royal Naval College is known for its magnificent Baroque architecture and rich history.  Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it stands on the site of the former Greenwich Palace, the birthplace of Tudor monarchs like Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

Royal Observatory

A little walk up the hill took me to the Royal Observatory …

The Prime Meridian at Greenwich divides the eastern and western hemispheres of the Earth the same way the Equator divides the northern and southern hemispheres.

Around Greenwich

I stopped and had Fish & Chips at the Trafalgar Tavern and then it was back to the Uber Boat.  I had a FABULOUS time here.
