Hello again London! You are definitely one of my favourite cities and the last stop on my Round the World adventure. This time I went out to Windsor Castle again, stayed at The Goring, saw Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and saw The Phantom of the Opera again. I’m very predictable when in London.
About The Destination (Star Alliance Round The World)
Of all European capitals, London lives deepest in the imagination of travelers. We absorb London before we know it exists and when we finally approach the city, it does not disappoint. There are the red double-deckers, the bobbies and impassive guards at Buckingham, Westminster Abbey, and the notes of Big Ben, sounding familiar, as we have heard them before. We see these things with satisfaction.
Yet there is much to surprise. London is not quaint. London is not a museum, though you could spend all of your time going from one to the next. It is a booming, urban sprawl, with traffic snarls, shops, and an astonishing international population. Visit the many monuments with nearly a millennium’s worth of history, from the grave of Chaucer to the pub where the captain of the Mayflower drank to Piccadilly Circus, one of London’s most photographed sights. But don’t miss contemporary London, with its intensely active theatres, international cuisine, political demonstrations, the latest in music and fashion, punks and peers, and everyone in between. In 1777, writer Samuel Johnson said when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, and the phrase is still true. There’s something different to experience every day in London.
Phantom of the Opera
Another showing of The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre. It was renamed from Her Majesty’s Theatre after Queen Elizabeth II passed away. This time I had a box seat and it was a whole different perspective. Box 2 was very cool.
Windsor Castle
I headed to Windsor Castle to see the Queen’s Ledger Stone. It was surreal to enter St George’s Chapel and actually see it. Pictures were not allowed inside so the one below is from the BBC.

The Shell World
One of the best things about all the years I spent at Shell is that I have colleagues who are now friends all over the world. I always meet up with Jon when in London and this time he took me to FishWorks.
The little fish are devilled whitebait (cayenne pepper and chilli coated whitebait, served with rouille) and were delicious. I had fish & chips and took a picture of the platter the folks at the table next to us had.
Steven Laine
I’ve reviewed 3 of Steven Laine’s wine thriller books. We met at the Corinthia London hotel and I finally had the pleasure of meeting him in person for lunch. See you next time Steven!
For my book readers, check out his books ~ mystery, wine and reading all in one!
