The words The Orient Express conjures up images of the Golden Age of travel ~ glamour, luxury, elegance and art deco design.  Back in the day, aristocracy used to have their own carriage train.

Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” was published in 1934.  I haven’t read all of her books, but I have a couple of them.  The detective character of Mr. Hercule Poirot is in a lot of them and he was on the Orient Express.  Her first solo trip was a trip on the Orient Express.  A role model and inspiration for us solo female travellers!

Venice Simplon Orient Express Vintage Train

On my bucket list is the 10 night journey from Paris to Istanbul (Paris ~ Budapest ~ Romania ~ Bulgaria ~ Istanbul).

This journey of a lifetime takes you from the City of Lights to the very edge of Europe. An uncontested icon of the rails, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, has long captured the imagination of glamorous guests. Begin your adventure in Paris before rolling into Budapest, Romania and Bulgaria, with sojourns at luxury hotels along the way. Enjoy curated tours in captivating cities across the continent before disembarking in Istanbul with a heart full of memories. (

I want to drink champagne and wine, dance the night away and sleep in a Grand Suite.
