Close to the Bavarian Alps, this region is beautiful. Munich is Bavaria’s capital in Germany and the home of Oktoberfest. The next Oktoberfest starts on September 17 and well … we were a little early and missed it.
Getting here was a gong show. The flight from Stockholm to Munich was at 6:00 AM. We got to the airport around 3:00 and stood in line the entire time. When we finally got to our gate, it was already boarding. But we made it here along with our luggage. Air Tags are awesome!

Train Munich Hauptbahnhof to Füssen
A train ride from Munich to Füssen brought us to the land of castles! There are more than 60 castles in this area. A trip to Füssen to see Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles takes quite a bit of planning and it was worth it. Fantastic day trip!
The inspiration for Disney’s Cinderalla Castle. Started in 1868 by King Ludwig II, it wasn’t completed before his death. Medieval design, romantic and outfitted with the latest technology at the time, this castle is beautiful.
Dating back to the 12th century, Hohenschwangau Castle was in ruins. Rebuilt by King Maximilian II, it used to be the summer residence of King Maximilian II and his son King Ludwig II.
