After breakfast this morning, hit the road to the Oibek border to cross into Tajikistan before arriving in Khujand. This city is known as Alexandria Eskhata (Alexandria the furthest) and is believed to have been founded by Alexander the Great in the 6th century BC. When you arrive, wander around the bazaar and Jami Mosque, then maybe hit up the history museum.

Hello Tajikistan 🇹🇯
Tajikistan, officially the Republic of Tajikistan, is surrounded by Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and Dushanbe is the capital city. It is the poorest country among the former Soviet republics. Tajikistan is among the countries with the greatest potential for hydroelectric power in the world, and most of the electric power generated in Tajikistan is hydroelectric. English is taught in schools as one of the foreign languages.
Pamir Mountains
The Pamir Mountains are a range of mountains between Central Asia and South Asia and are known as the “Roof of the World”. They are located in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, China and Pakistan.
Khujand
Khujand, also spelled Khojand and Khodjent, dates back about 2,500 years to the Persian Empire and is located along both banks of the Syr Darya River. During the Soviet Union, Khujand was known as being “Lenin’s Favorite City”.
Crossing Into Tajikistan ~ Oibek Border
Another smooth border crossing and an exit stamp from Uzbekistan and an entry stamp from Tajikistan. I love entering a new country. I did a selfie with one of the Tajikistan guards and he said I could post it. Now this pic is just of him because I don’t know what kind of expression I had on my face. I cropped me out.
My 100th Country
Tajikistan has the honour of being the 100th country I’ve been fortunate to experience. It would have been really cool if this happened a few days earlier on my 55th birthday, but that takes travel planning to a different level.
Bazaar
Jami Mosque
The Jami (Juma) mosque is a monument of Tashkent architecture of the 14th to 15th centuries and the only cathedral mosque in Tashkent. There were a lot of children chasing the pigeons in the square.

Sugdiyon Hotel
I did not like this hotel ~ I had no water pressure and I love my showers too much. I didn’t bother showering the 2nd morning because it wasn’t worth the hassle. It was in a good location though.
